Gary Bridson stepped up and slotted the ball in the corner to beat Daniel Fields in the Carne goal and give Tref the lead.

Just 5 minutes later Tref thought they had gone further in front when they broke through and David Williams scuffed his shot which landed at the feet of Alun Hughes who scored but the referee deemed it to be offside.

In the 16th minute the game was level when a quick Carnetown free kick caught the Treforest back line switched off, for the one and only time in the game, and Jamie Wearn turned 2 players before shooting under Ian Loveless in the Tref goal.

Just 10 minutes later a Richard Noyes floating free kick from the right evaded everyone and fell to Richard Jago to bundle the ball over for his first goal for Treforest since his recent transfer and give Treforest the lead again.

The game ebbed and flowed for the rest of the first half with neither side troubling the goal keepers.

The second half saw Carnetown playing down the slope and putting Treforest under a lot of pressure trying to get back in the game.

Treforest now playing on the counter attack caused Carnetown a few problems with quick breaks but again without troubling Fields in goal.

Carnetown changed their formation going for broke but a resolute Tref defence held out and the only time they did break through Loveless produced an excellent save.

With 15 minutes remaining Carnetown were reduced to 10 players when Garon Davies was harshly shown the red card for a foul on Wayne Marks and in the last 5 minutes Carnetown were reduced to 9 players with a second booking for the right back.

A very good 3 points for Treforest against one of the challengers for the league title.

Next up for Treforest is Cardiff Dracs home Feb 26th 2.30pm kick off.

Treforest 0 - Llantwit Major 1

In difficult conditions both sides were in a hurry to get a grip on the game which led to a fast paced encounter with both sides attacking quickly when in possession.

It was Llantwit who created the first clear cut chance of the game when they got through one on one with Ian Loveless in the Treforest goal but failed to take the chance. The Llantwit bench, who spent most of the match complaining, appealed for a penalty after their striker and Loveless collided but it was actually the Llantwit striker who had kicked the Treforest keeper when going for the ball.

The game ebbed and flowed with neither side creating too many chances but the half ended on a sour note when Treforest lost their talisman Shaun Engelhardt to an injury on the stroke of half time when going for a block tackle he turned his ankle.

Though the half ended badly, worse was to follow, when in the 2nd minute of the second half the ball was played to Sean Nash, the Llantwit Striker clearly controlled the ball with his hands and followed this up by scoring from 5 yards with the ref unsighted to the hand ball.

Treforest kept plugging away for the equaliser and despite a flurry of bookings for both sides kept putting Llantwit under pressure without testing the keeper.

Llantwit Major were always dangerous on the counter attack with Stewart Lindsey getting a lot of success down their right hand side.

Treforest thought they had equalised when the impressive Richard Jago thundered a header against the bar and in the final stages the match erupted when a bad tackle by Andre Phillips led to the Llantwit Sub throwing a punch at the Treforest player and in the resulting melee the Treforest player was shown a red card for retaliating and a Llantwit player also sent off for throwing a punch but the perpetrator who threw the first punch from Llantwit getting off due to the ref missing it in the melee.

Treforest 2 - Aber Valley 2

Treforest started the brighter and kept pressure on the Aber back line without troubling the Aber keeper.

Aber started to get into the game and after 22 minutes they took the lead after a close range tap in after a mistake at the back.

The rest of the first half saw Aber with their tails up and putting pressure on Treforest without creating anything.

Treforest started the 2nd half strongly and were putting Aber under a lot of pressure and they got their reward after David Williams headed home for 1-1.

Shortly after the same player waltzed past Aber defenders and hit a thunderous shot which left the Aber keeper stranded and gave Treforest a deserved lead.

With time running out and Aber devoid of ideas it seemed the 3 points were there for Treforest, however the Aber substitute picked up the ball out on the touchline 30 yards out and hit a hopeful ball towards the goal and it sailed over everyone’s heads into the net to give Aber a share of the points.

Ferndale 0 - Treforest 4

Despite the conditions both teams tried to play a quick passing game and it was good combination play between Louis Gerrard and Gary Bridson which led to the latter crossing in from deep on the left for Andre Phillips to head home from 6 yards to put Treforest 1 0 in front.

Treforest kept up the pressure and when Andre Phillips picked up the ball on the half way line, he surged forward and after playing an exquisite pass with the outside of his right foot to Alun Hughes out wide, he raced on to pick up the cross and unselfishly passed across the face of goal to give Louis Gerrard the easiest of chances to tap in from 5 yards for 2-0.

The second half started with Ferndale playing some very neat football and putting pressure on the Treforest backline but they held firm to keep Ferndale out.

The game was made safe when Aaron Davies curled a shot into the bottom corner from just inside the Ferndale penalty area to make it 3-0.

The excellent Jonathan Jeffries made it 4 0 after the Ferndale keeper parried a shot and he was on the spot to tap in and set up a quarter final home tie against local rivals Graig FC.
