Treforest FC vs Arsenal Ex Pro / Celebrity Team 2010

A Team from the late 1940's
The much anticipated charity football match between the Arsenal Ex Pro/Celebrity team and Treforest FC took place on a lovely summer’s day at the White Tips Stadium on Sunday 8th August.

The Arsenal team is now in its 18th season and have raised over £1million for different chosen charities, and a crowd of approx 400 people on the day not only enjoyed a football spectacle but also were able to help add to the amount raised for the charities.

The celebrity team, consisting of ex Arsenal players Brian Hornsby, Brain Sparrow and Tony Murtagh plus Ex Stoke City Jamie Cartwright and Ex Galatasary Evern Arkali and TV Personalities Tommy Walsh (Groundforce), Giles Anderson (The Damned Utd) and Ralf Little (Royle Family), took the game to Treforest and quickly raced into a 3-0 lead playing some excellent football.

With Treforest boasting a large squad changes were made and Treforest got a goal back with a left footed volley from 30 yards by Shaun Engelhardt leaving Tommy Walsh in the Arsenal goal with no chance.
Local men created the pitch in the 1930's.

New Treforest striker Alun Hughes, signed from Welsh league Aberaman, got a 2nd for Treforest after an excellent move however Arsenal were still producing some wonderful possession football and the star of the day Ralf Little increased the celebrities lead. A penalty by Ian Ferguson for Arsenal made it 5-2 before a Richie Edwards wonder strike pulled another gaol back for Treforest.

With the big crowd enjoying some excellent football more goals followed and the game ended 6-5 to Arsenal. At the final whistle the crowd surged onto the pitch and with all credit to the Arsenal team, photos and autographs were given to all who asked with Ralf Little especially staying on the pitch for over an hour before he could get to the changing rooms.

The day was made such a success by a small band of volunteers from within the club working very hard plus volunteers on the day and thanks must be given to all those who gave up a lot of time for this, thanks also to the match officials Brian James, Mike Ford and Robert John for giving their free time up to run the match.
